Skin Care for Oily Skin

One of the most unattractive skin problems facing women is oily skin. It is a shiny, thick, dull colored film covering the face of the sufferer. It usually accompanies coarse pores, pimples, and this complexion type is usually prone to blackheads. The sebaceous glands are overactive, producing much more oil than needed. The skin has a pitted look which is persistently oozing oil and always appears to be greasy. Oily skin is aggravated by a variety of factors including diet, hormone levels, pregnancy, cosmetics, and humidity.

Tips Oily Skin Care

Special care is imperative to keep the grease and look of those large pores under control. It is best to wash your face with plenty of hot, soapy water. Use an antibacterial soap and rinse with mineral water. Never use tap water because it is probably chemically treated, or if your water source is from an underground well, it may contain bacteria. Unlike its counterpart—dry skin, the technique for using hot water to rinse soap off is best for oily skin. The heated water dissolves the strong oils on your face more effectively than lukewarm water. Keeping oily skin clean is important, however limit the number of times you wash your face. Be sure it is not more than three times per day. Over-washing can stimulate your skin to secrete more oil which is the last thing you want to do accidentally.

Choosing the correct cleansers and creams for a face with oily skin is extremely important. You must avoid using heavy cleansing creams or lotions which will clog the already heavily congested pores. You must also avoid harsh products that strip your skin of its natural oils. That could encourage flakiness despite the oily tendency which in turn, may cause reactive seborrhea, a condition in which the oil glands go into overdrive to compensate for the loss of oils removed by harsh facial cleansers. During your washing ritual, it is best to massage your face using your fingertips in an upward and outward motion. Never scrub or rub as this can force the soap or cleanser into the pores and again, cause additional pore clogging. Lightly apply an oil free moisturizer after cleansing to keep your skin supple.

Unfortunately, cosmetics can severely worsen the condition of oily skin. A few carefully planned measures taken before and after applying makeup can help protect your skin and also combat the negative effects of your blush and eye shadow powders. Be sure to choose
makeup products specifically designed for oily skin, and use an antiseptic day cream containing benzyl peroxide before putting on your makeup. Benzyl peroxide diminishes sebaceous secretions, thus keeping your skin dryer. Always wash your makeup off before going to sleep. Makeup left on overnight can be pressed into the pores which will cause clogging and the eruption of more pimples and blemishes.
