Skin Care After 40
Give your skin a more youthful appearance. The most simple beauty habits can create excellent results.
When you wake up in the morning, one of the first things you may do is look in a mirror. The first thing you see is the skin on your face. After a long night, you may appear haggard with obvious areas of particular stress. Puffy, swollen eyes, deeper lines, and grooved creases may look even more exaggerated than when you went to sleep the night before. You would love to see a healthy, glowing, beautiful, supple complexion in the reflection, and it IS possible to achieve.
Tips for Younger Looking Skin
A most important first step in your age fighting arsenal is to begin by washing your face and body properly. Use a high quality, oil free facial wash and scrub twice a day. It is best to cleanse your face in the morning and before bed. Do not clean your face more than twice a day, as this can dry your skin and accelerate the aging process. When showering, try to limit your time to ten to fifteen minutes and only use warm water. Extremely hot water can strip your skin of moisture. Dry thoroughly and apply a good moisturizing lotion or cream. This locks in moisture and helps prevent excessive itchiness and drying of the s kin.
Avoid direct sunlight whenever possible. The sun gives off harmful UV-A and UV-B rays that not only cause your skin to become leathery, splotchy, and wrinkly, but also causes cancer. Use a sunscreen which has a SPF 30 or better rating whenever you spend time outside. Ultraviolet rays can penetrate most t-shirt materials, so always use a very high quality sun block, even when wearing long sleeves.
Keep alcohol consumption to a minimum and do not smoke. Although an occasional glass of wine or a random cigarette here or there will not damage your health or skin in the moment, long term abuse of either of these substances has been shown to cause great physical and aesthetic harm. It has been proven that years of smoking will eventually cause deep, vertical creases beginning at the top of your lip heading up to the base of your nose. Within hours of applying lipstick, those smoking wrinkles grab tiny bits of color and bleed it upward on your lip, making a very unpleasant cosmetic effect on your face, often unknown to the wearer.
Two other simple, yet most overlooked habits to incorporate daily, are to always eat a well-balanced diet to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Consuming food that contains protein, carbohydrates, and macronutrients is essential to maintain the fine health of your body and skin. Protein is the building block of the body. Antioxidants found in both raw and cooked fruits and vegetables are shown to contribute greatly to the well-being of your skin.
Regular, uninterrupted sleep is essential. When we rest, our bodies release extra proteins and hormones that aid in the restoration process. Be sure to obtain eight hours of sleep each night to ensure that the body has plenty of time to heal itself. Those dark circles under your eyes could very well disappear with consistent sleep habits and the addition of fruits and vegetables into your daily diet
